If this is your first cat, please do not hesitate to ask questions. We are here to help and we want your adoption to go smoothly! Below are three helpful tips.
Litterboxes: We recommend plastic litterboxes that are large, simple, and open. It is very important to have at least one litterbox per cat plus one extra. So if you end up with 2 cats, you will need 3 litterboxes. Scoop them at least once a day and clean them with soap and water every two weeks. As far as litter type, most cats do well with unscented, clumping clay litter.
Playtime: Many behavioral issues can be avoided
or solved simply by playing with your cats twice a day for 10-15 minutes at a time. We recommend wand toys because they keep your hands away from the action and they are great at simulating the movements of prey animals like birds and mice. Use the techniques in this handout on Interactive Cat Play .
Scratchers: Cats need to scratch to relieve stress, mark their territory, and keep their nails from getting too long. Provide them suitable surfaces with scratching posts or pads made out of sisal or cardboard.

What is declawing?
Declawing is an operation to surgically remove a cat's claws by amputating all or part of the distal phalanges, or end bones, of the cat's toes. Research shows that this procedure is harmful.
